Bianca Marcia Naves Artist In Residence

Bianca Marcia Naves is a multimedia artist, with a dual focus in costuming and performance art.  Stemming from her philosophy of Arte Util, or useful art, she creates intense, interactive performances and explores issues such as Domestic Violence, War, and Clean Water.  She is an advocate for Women and strives to shatter stereotypes.

Drawing on her theater background, Bianca creates environments in which the lines between performer and audience are blurred, heightening the intensity of the experience and openness of the dialogue.  She has performed in galleries throughout Northwest Ohio, The Performance Lab in Detroit, and the Jazz Gallery in Milwaukee, WI.

During her residency, Bianca will prepare for a performance of “Women’s Work?,” a commentary on traditional gender roles in American culture. Using multi-sensory elements of taste, touch, sound, smell, and sight, Bianca will create an interactive experience for the viewer. Women’s Work? is set in a makeshift “kitchen” which is amplified by using a variety of sound tools including, but not limited to, contact mics and instrumental pedals. Pulling from the gritty aesthetic of the Rust Belt, Bianca aims to take art off the wall and literally into the hands of the audience. Food will be prepared, served, and “cleaned up” as part of the performance.
