Don’t Hesitate

If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed or about
to be. We are not wise, and not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this
is its way of fighting back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the
case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.

MEET OUR CURRENT ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE!

Camilo Pachón is a Colombian multidisciplinary artist, curator, and educator working between Bogotá and Berlin. His practice explores the intersections of art, spirituality, and technology, rooted in ancestral knowledge and traditional practices. Through installations, performances, masks, and community-based works, he challenges hegemonic narratives of reality, reimagines our connections with people and ecosystems, and explores the potential of socially engaged art as a tool for collective transformation.  

Camilo was selected as a resident at ZK/U Berlin, received the Healing Complex fellowship from Urbane Künste Ruhr, and curated the Making Worlds program at Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen. He was also one of ten Latin American artists selected for the Third Biennial of Art and Design at UNAM (Mexico).  His work has been exhibited at institutions such as Temporary Gallery (Cologne), Film Forum at Museum Ludwig (Cologne), Banco de la República (Colombia), the 18th Regional Salon of Artists (Colombia), and Instituto de Visión (Bogotá). His practice has been presented across Latin America, Europe, and the United States.

Each year Visible Records hosts a member group show. This year we decided to do it a little bit different, offering members to put together a proposal to be selected by the Executive Director, David Oresick of The Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh, PA.

We are excited to announce that Phượng Duyên Hải Nguyễn will be presenting a solo show of her work this December! Stay tuned.

SOBERANÍAS VISUALES

Opening August 29th, at Ruffin Gallery.

Ayuujk (Mixe), Nahua, Maya-Ch’ol, Ñuu Savi (Mixtec), Otomí, Maya-Kaqchikel, P’urhépecha, Diidxazà, Maya-Tsotsil, Zapotec, and Sarhua are but a few of the ancestral lineages that collide in Fuego Eterno: Soberanías Visuales. This project brings together the knowledge and aesthetic achievements of individuals whose ancestral lineage predates Spanish colonialism and who center millennia of inherited epistemologies within their contemporary practices. Fuego Eterno: Soberanías Visuales aesthetically departs from a critical interrogation of nation and citizenship as a concrete hope to create sovereign solidarities. At the height of the Spanish Empire, it colonized over thirty-five modern nations. Fuego Eterno: Soberanías Visuales unites them to blur the boundaries of settler colonialism by bringing together artists and scholars from the contemporary nations of México, United States, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Peru, Bolivia, Philippines, Chile, Jamaica, Ecuador, Venezuela, Equatorial Guinea, and many others to shift toward a new paradigm of interdisciplinary scholarship that transcends borders, linguistics, fields of study, geographical segregation, and extractive colonial epistemologies, methodologies and knowledge making approaches.
